Girl on Fire

Suzanne Collins has rendered me a puddle of tears and broken emotions.

Yes. I am fully aware that it is 2015 and I'm just now reading The Hunger Games. The simple reason being that I watched the first movie when it came out and was traumatized... no joke. I hated it. (I love me some Josh Hutcherson though!) Either way, it made me scared to pick up the series.

For some random reason I decided to order it this past week and I read all three like my life depended on it! They are written brilliantly and I was hooked from the very start. I admire Suzanne so much for than I thought I would as a writer.

It's almost 4 in the morning and I just finished Mockingjay and as I'm still tearing up I'm writing this! lol Because that's how I deal with my emotions, I write them.

I think one of my favorite aspects was her amazing time management. I stink at passing time inside the book and making it feel seamless, but it's an art form to her. Months and years pass in the books but you don't feel at all left out. It's like nothing happened.

Character development was golden as well. She wasn't scared to put them through the ringer and it molded them beautifully... and not so beautifully sometimes.

The ending just made me drop my kindle and cry. They had made it so far, been through so much and then it's just over. I felt exhausted alongside them like a good book will do to you. I didn't want it to end! But the ending was perfection.. it really was.

Uhg, I don't know what to do with myself now! A new world and it's people are now going to be stuck in my head. It's a lovely yet haunting thing.

I hope the rest of the Mortal Instruments series arrives soon to get my mind off of it.

So, your thoughts? Have you read the books or watched the movies? My opinion is that the books are freaking amazing. The movies, not so much. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

  1. TBH, I find Hunger Games completely messed up. I think Hunger Games and Maze Runners set up the whole dystopian future trend and now literature seems a bit messed up now. I mean, there are good, newer books out there, but not that many. Honestly, Marissa, never thought you would care for Hunger Games. You and I really are opposites. The only thing I honestly like about Hunger Games is the music for the movies- especially the songs by Lorde!

But this is just my opinion.

    1. I agree that it really does distort peoples views on things. I don't think it really messes up the literature of today because it's really well written! It's as good as all kinds of other books. My issues were with the whole mass killing and stuff. I'm usually not into that, but as a writer I think it's really important to read as much and read as diverse as possible to know how to succeed in the writing world. I totally understand your point though and they really aren't for everyone. The movies made me sick! But they played up the gore and mess for the films. The books have a really beautiful quality.
